Nicki MinajNicki Minaj wants male contestants to flash her on American Idol. The fiery judge insists she will remember those who show off their bodies and was impressed when one eager contestant removed his shirt during the audition stage.

"[The best thing a contestant can do to impress me is] flash me. That would make me remember a person. One boy in particular took off his shirt and was trying to be all sexy," she said.

Nicki also credited her own dysfunctional childhood with giving her the drive to become a star. The "Starships" singer explained, "I dealt with a little bit of a dysfunctional household and my inspiration was if I can just make it out of this, I could help my family and that was my driving force and I've said it for my entire career, but it's the truth. Sometimes, if you attach your dreams to something bigger than you it's like it's impossible for you to ever stop, so my thing was always I've got to get my family out of this kind of life and at times when I thought about giving up, that's what kept me going."

American Idol premieres next week on Wednesday and Thursday at 8/7c on Fox.

Mariah Carey and Nick CannonMariah Carey's husband convinced her to join the American Idol panel.

The "Hero" singer admitted she was initially wary of taking a role on the judging panel of the pop star search show but America's Got Talent host Nick Cannon talked her into it.

"He really wanted me to do this. I had my own kind of reservations about it because I didn't know how I would adapt to the situation. It's a huge deal," she said.

However, Mariah admitted she would have hated to be a contestant on the show when she was first starting out: "I get really attached to certain people for different reasons whether it's their story or what it mainly is is talent. Sometimes I see myself in some of the contestants when I first started and I'm glad I didn't have to do a show like this. I would have hated it! It's been really fun. We're still in the beginning stages but I've learned a lot. I want to continue to be the best I can be in order to help contestants. It's that for me. I don't know if I have a judging style. I try to speak as frankly as possible, but as kindly as possible not sugar coating the whole thing because that does nobody any good and that's boring to watch."

Dolly PartonDolly Parton has turned down American Idol and The X Factor. The legendary singer was approached to join both shows as a judge over the years but admitted the only TV talent search she would ever consider appearing on is The Voice because it is more nurturing to its contestants.

"I've been asked to do American Idol and The X Factor almost every time there's a new season. [On The Voice] you don't have to judge that much and I hesitate to judge people," she said.

Dolly previously revealed she will always be grateful to Whitney Houston for making her song "I Will Always Love You" famous and credits her friends and God with preventing her from going down the same road as the tragic singer, who drowned following an accidental overdose in a hotel bathtub in February: "I thank God every day for that song - and Whitney made it popular worldwide. It's a very simple song, really, as simple as anything I've ever written. I've always had good and close friends, and a spiritual faith. God will take the wrong people and things out, and teach me to have the right people and the right things. Some people don't have that, and that's where it can go wrong."

Nicki Minaj and Steven Tyler

Steven Tyler has hit back at Nicki Minaj for calling him a "racist."

The American Idol judge lashed out at the Aerosmith rocker - whom she replaced on the panel of the talent show - after he questioned her suitability and claimed she would've passed on legendary musician Bob Dylan if he auditioned, but Steven was shocked when Nicki took it as a racist insult. "It was a moment, I'm sorry if it was taken wrong. But I'm the furthest from a racist. I'm not sure how she got that from me saying 'I'm not sure she would have judged Bob Dylan.' I was just saying if Bob Dylan came on the show he would have been thrown off. Maybe I spoke out of turn but a racist I'm not," he said.

Nicki MinajNicki Minaj is scared her fans won't like her on American Idol. The "Moment For Life" singer - who is set to make her debut as a judge on the new season of the reality TV series when it hits screens early next year on January 16 - is worried she will come across as an unpleasant person on the show and won't even be able to watch herself.

"I'm scared. Maybe I shouldn't have been so like... It's hard for me to not say how I really feel. Everyone else is so nice. I was just thinking back about some things and I was like, 'I wonder if that was not so nice.' I don't think I'm going to be able to watch it. I'm going to be so nervous. But I know people are going to love it. I think it's a great dynamic," she said on Ryan Seacrest's radio show today.

The 29-yer-old singer admitted she thinks that brutal honesty is the best policy when it comes to the contestants on the show: "As an artist I've always grown more from the tougher criticism and so I would like to be that person and to try to help people get that thick skin and to really give it their all, because it is a competition."

Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj thinks Mariah Carey has "met her match" in her.

The "Starships" singer has admitted there is more than one diva on the judging panel of American Idol following her explosive bust-up with the star last month, during which she hurled profanities at Mariah. "I think Mariah met her match this time, and I don't think she was expecting to meet her match. I'm super nervous and anxious for the first day on American Idol. I'm still second guessing my decision. I'm probably going to be a hundred times guessing this decision because I'm human. It's a big job," she revealed, speaking in her new reality show My Truth.

Steven TylerSteven Tyler thinks Mariah Carey's bitter American Idol feud with Nicki Minaj is a publicity stunt.

The Aerosmith star - who announced he was leaving the reality show in July after a successful two season run on the judging panel - believes producers have orchestrated the women's outspoken rivalry to boost ratings. The "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" singer told TMZ, "Of course, are you kidding" when asked if he thought their furious bust-up was designed to generate more publicity.

Filming of the new series was called to a halt earlier this week after the judges' disagreement over a contestant turned into a bitter screaming match as Nicki hurled insults at Mariah, calling her "boring as f**k" and threatening "off with your head!"

The "Starships" rapper has continued to blast Mariah on her Twitter page. But American Idol producers have insisted the show must go on despite the tension and pledged their support for the entire judging panel.

Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey hired extra security after Nicki Minaj threatened to shoot her.

The American Idol star has confirmed her fellow judge menaced her with gun violence during their explosive argument on the set of the talent show on Tuesday, and she is worried about the "unpredictable" rapper's next move. Mariah contacted chat show host Barbara Walters, who read out a statement on The View which revealed several staff members had heard Nicki quip, "If I had a gun I would shoot the b***h."

Nicki Minaj and Mariah CareyMariah Carey and Nicki Minaj have called a truce.

The American Idols judges - who were involved in an explosive argument on Monday during which the "Starships" rapper screamed violent insults at Mariah because she made her feel "inadequate" during the auditions round of the competition - are said to have buried the hatchet.

The chart rivals were reportedly civil and professional throughout yesterday's auditions for the reality TV singing competition in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to US gossip website TMZ. A source told the site that everyone working on the popular series was "shocked" and "embarrassed" by the outburst, which hit the internet after being caught on camera.

Nicki MinajNicki Minaj joined American Idol because it is a "credible brand."

The "Starships" singer - who was recently confirmed as a judge on the talent show, sitting alongside Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson and Keith Urban on the panel - claims she had offers from other singing and reality shows but went for 'Idol' as it has so much history.

"This is such a credible brand. It's really serious, it's real deal it's not anything else other than really looking for talent. If I can be a part of that I'm really down for it," she said.

Nicki says she has always been a fan of the show - which is now entering its 12th season - and remembers when Jordin Sparks won the sixth series. "I remember watching American Idol in the first season and feeling inspired. I spoke to Jordin Sparks the other day and here she is starring in a movie [Sparkle] and I said to her, 'I remember watching you and picking up my phone,'" she said, speaking at the American Idol press conference.
